Red Sox have not approached All-Star outfielder about contract extension

ā€¢

The Boston Red Sox need to have a good offseason, but it seems like they are forgetting to lock up their current assets, or maybe, they don’t feel like doing it yet. One of those assets is Jarren Duran, the teamā€™s star outfielder and 2024 All-Star MVP. Duran hasnā€™t even been approached about an extension per Chris Cotillo.

ā€œThe Red Sox have never even broached the topic of a deal with Duran, according to a league source, but that could change after a breakout year that saw him become an 8.7-WAR player overnight.ā€

This was Duranā€™s breakout season. Along with All-Star MVP, Duran was nominated as a finalist for the Hank Aaron award and the Silver Slugger Award. He finished the season with splits of .285/.342/.492/.834, 21 home runs, and led the league with 48 doubles and 14 triples.Ā

Duran still has four years of control left, so the Sox could either trade him while value is high, or lock him up as a proof of their developmental success, and have him to help lead the Sox to playoff contention.Ā

Hopefully the Sox lock him up, as he is one of the best outfielders in the league, and if the Red Sox want to start contending for the next four to six years, heā€™s the man to keep.
