On Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox took on the New York Mets at Citi Field for the first of three matchups, and Alex Cora’s squad was handed a 4-1 loss.
Boston’s offense has been really scuffling recently, and it was no different in this opener, as they totaled just six hits and three walks while striking out nine times. They left six men on base and hit into multiple double plays.
Their lone run was scored on a Jarren Duran (1-for-4) single which resulted in an out, as he tried stretching a hit into a double. No single member of the lineup recorded multiple hits.
Boston started Brayan Bello on the mound. He gave up four runs on seven hits in five innings. While his defense did have some solid plays behind him, they had multiple errors which kept innings alive.
Josh Winckowski went the rest of the way, tossing three innings of scoreless, one-hit baseball.
This loss dropped the Red Sox to 70-68 on the season and 39-30 away from Fenway Park. These two teams will meet again on Wednesday.
