Reddit Expands Post Translation Option to More Languages

Reddit’s announced an expansion of its AI-powered post translation option, which will enable more Redditors in more regions to engage with content.

As explained by Reddit:

“Earlier this year, we introduced a new machine translation feature to redditors in France, and to continue to bring Reddit to even more people around the world, today we’re starting to roll out machine translation to redditors in more than 35 additional countries.”

Reddit will now enable Brazilian and Spanish users to translate posts via the process, which is available in the post menu options on each update.

In the coming weeks, Reddit’s also expanding translations to Germany, Italy, the Philippines, as well as countries throughout Latin America.

“This feature will work wherever you access Reddit: across mobile web, our apps, and desktop.”

With this expansion, Reddit’s looking to enable users to contribute to subreddit discussions in their preferred language, with the system then auto-translating their content into the community’s native language.

Reddit’s also adding indicators on translated posts, with an option to show the original language, so you can get the full context as originally written.

It’s a smart way to utilize AI and machine learning processes to expand accessibility, with both YouTube and Meta also working on AI-powered translation tools in the same vein.

Reddit’s also looking to use AI to summarize subreddit discussions, and improve its ad tools, as it continues to build new capabilities into the app.

It’s taking a measured, intelligent approach to AI adaptation, which is aligned with platform usage, and as it continues to grow, Reddit does look to be making the right moves on this front.
