Remember Driver On Xbox? Ubisoft Says It’s Working On ‘Exciting Projects’ For The Franchise

We’re hoping that means a sequel

Image: Driver: San Francisco / UbisoftThe last Xbox Driver game launched all the way back in 2011 in the form of Driver: San Francisco, but is the series about to make its grand return? Well, we’re not entirely sure just yet, but Ubisoft says that it is “actively working” on the franchise – as the company also confirms the cancellation of a TV adaptation.

As per outlet Game File, Ubisoft has cancelled its live action Driver TV show that was first announced back in 2021. However, the team still appears to have plans for its action-racing franchise in some fashion.

There’s no more detail on what these ‘projects’ are right now, but given that this TV adaptation has ultimately proved fruitless, we’re hoping that Ubisoft turns back to video games now. Driver San Fran was a pretty interesting take on the racing genre, and we’d love to see the series return on modern tech sometime soon.

Of course, these days Ubisoft has The Crew franchise purring with the recently released Motorfest – but that’s very Forza Horizon-like, whereas Driver goes more in that Need for Speed kind of direction. We think there’s room for both from the team anyway, so let’s see what happens with Driver in the future!
