Report: Blow to Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, and Everton as Super Eagles star agrees new deal in Turkey
Bright Osayi-Samuel has put an end to speculation over his future by agreeing to extend his stay at Fenerbahçe, ensuring the Super Eagles star remains in Turkey beyond 2025, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigerian defender, who was born in England, had been linked with a dream move to the Premier League when his contract with the Turkish giants expired at the end of the current season.
Reports suggested clubs like Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, and Everton were eager to secure the 26-year-old on a free transfer next summer.
However, Fenerbahçe have successfully retained the versatile right-back after months of negotiations.
According to Turkish outlet Kontraspor, a breakthrough in talks came when Fenerbahçe Sporting Director Mario Branco held a decisive meeting with Osayi-Samuel’s older brother, who also serves as his agent.
The outcome was a 2+1 year agreement, offering a two-year contract extension with an additional year option to be activated at the club’s discretion.
Fenerbahçe manager Jose Mourinho reportedly played a pivotal role in persuading Osayi-Samuel to stay.
The former Chelsea boss views the defender as a critical part of his long-term plans, particularly given Osayi-Samuel’s dual effectiveness in both defensive and attacking roles.
This season, Osayi-Samuel has already made 12 appearances for Fenerbahçe.
While he has yet to register a goal or an assist, his contributions on both ends of the pitch remain significant.
With a current market value estimated at €8 million, the 26-year-old’s commitment is a major boost for Fenerbahçe as they aim to build on their recent success.
An official announcement from the club is expected soon.
