American golfer John Daly will be played by Kevin James in a new limited series produced by Village Roadshow, Deadline’s Justin Kroll reported.
The series will be “based on the life” of Daly, according to Kroll.
This is the second time in three years that James will act in a sports movie. He also played retired New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton in Netflix’s 2022 Home Team, and led a NASCAR race team in Netflix’s 2021 TV show The Crew.
The show joins a series of other upcoming media projects centered on golf, including Netflix’s new comedy show GOLF and sequel movie Happy Gilmore 2.
It is not yet clear what part of the Carmichael, California, native’s life the show will focus on. The series could potentially draw on My Life in and out of the Rough: The Truth Behind All That Bull**** You Think You Know About Me, the autobiography Daly published in 2007, for inspiration.
Daly turned professional in 1987 and won 19 professional events over the course of his career, including his memorable underdog win as a rookie out of Arkansas at the 1991 PGA Championship.
The 58-year-old remains active in the PGA Tour and is currently competing in the Principal Charity Classic.
There is no official release date for the television series, and the streaming service or network on which it will be available has not yet been announced.
