Report: Kevin Paredes to miss Wolfsburg’s opening two matches with foot injury
Wolfsburg faces a tough test against Bayern Munich in its opening Bundesliga match of the season and will now reportedly be without young attacker Kevin Paredes.
Paredes will be sidelined for at least two matches to begin the campaign due to a foot injury, Kicker reported Wednesday. The U.S. men’s national team winger/wingback did not feature in Wolfsburg’s 1-0 German Cup win over Koblenz last weekend due to the injury.
He is expected to see more of a role on the right side of Wolfsburg’s attack, a change from his left wing/wingback role that Paredes featured in over the past two seasons.
“He is an option for me in this position,” Wolfsburg manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said. “He can pull in with his left foot, can score goals. Kevin is a very offensively thinking winger who has also shown defensively that he can start.”
Paredes heads into his third season with the Bundesliga side since transferring from MLS’ DC United. The 21-year-old scored three goals in 29 combined appearances last season, logging 1,454 minutes of action.
In total, Paredes has made 55 appearances for Wolfsburg, scoring four goals and registering three assists.
After a busy summer with the U.S. Olympic Team, Paredes will likely be unavailable for the September international window.
Wolfsburg faces Bayern Munich and Holstein Kiel in its first two matches before the FIFA break.
