Report: Trabzonspor weighing up permanent transfer for Onuachu
Turkish Super Lig. club Trabzonspor are weighing up a permanent transfer for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu in the summer, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onuachu was one of the best players in the Belgian Jupiler League Pro between 2020 and 2023. The Nigeria striker was the league’s highest goalscorer in the 2020/2021 season, scoring 35 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions that season.
Following his performance, he was linked to several top clubs in Europe, like Atletico Madrid, Fiorentina, and Lyon, but a deal did not work out.
Eventually, Onuachu got his move in January 2023, but it was to a struggling Southampton side who were merely hoping to survive relegation.
Unfortunately, the deal did not work out well for him, as he got very little game time, failing to get a goal involvement in his 12 games for the club. It seemed like Onuachu’s career was going to plummet, but he pushed for a move to Turkish club Trabzonspor last summer.
The season-long deal has paid off for the 29-year-old hitman, as he has registered nine goals in 18 games for the former Turkish champions.
Onuachu’s brilliance has made him a subject of numerous talks, and according to Saints Socialite, Trabzonspor may be looking to sign him permanently. However, the problem will be the price.
Onuachu is valued at €12million, and for a Turkish club, that is a lot of money for a player who is on the brink of clocking 30. Still, both parties could establish a deal, as Southampton may be looking to dispose of Onuachu to make space and get some money to purchase other players.
