Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga will be re-evaluated in three weeks after suffering a sprained right ankle, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Kuminga exited in the second quarter of the Warriors’ 121-113 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night after appearing to roll his ankle and didn’t return to the game.

He was seen leaving Chase Center on crutches and was preparing to undergo an MRI, via ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk.

After Saturday’s contest, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr confirmed that Kuminga suffered an ankle sprain.

“It’s a sprained ankle,” Kerr said, per Youngmisuk. “We’ll have more tomorrow. It is not going to be a day-to-day thing. It was a significant sprain.”

“JK has been playing the best basketball of his career these last couple of weeks, so we’re going to miss him,” he added.

The 22-year-old has stayed relatively healthy since he was selected by Golden State with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, appearing in at least 70 games during two of his first three seasons. He also suited up in 32 of the Warriors’ first 34 games this year.

Kuminga’s extended absence is a tough blow for a Golden State team that has struggled as of late, sitting at 18-16 after opening the season with a 12-3 record.

He served as a crucial piece of Kerr’s rotation, alternating between the starting lineup and the bench. Kuminga is averaging 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from three-point territory.

Golden State could rely on multiple players to replace his production on both ends of the court including veteran Kyle Anderson and fourth-year guard Moses Moody.

As the Warriors attempt to get back on track, they’ll have to do so with Kuminga unavailable for several weeks.
