Resonant Acoustic Poetry with The Singer and The Songwriter | Acoustic Guitar Sessions

In the weeks leading up to the release of their new record, Dreams! The Dead! Ghost! Future, San Francisco Bay Area-based duo The Singer and the Songwriter (Rachel Garcia and Thu Tran) stopped by the AG offices to talk about their collaborative songwriting process and perform some beautiful music.

The album is full of resonant acoustic poetry—evocative images, imaginative guitar accompaniment, and stunning vocals. The songs feel familiar, but the stories they tell are fresh and urgent—reflective of today’s political and social division, with glimmers of hope for a better tomorrow.

For this Session, Garcia and Tran perform “Rest Stop Angels,” “Drowsy Driver,” and “Virginia.”

Tran also shares some interesting ideas about instrumental lyricism and space. “Let your guitar playing breathe, so it sounds more like a voice,” he says.
