Rich Paul’s Strategy to Save Tyrese Maxey’s NBA Career Could Give Bronny James a Breath of Fresh Air

Tyrese Maxey is at the forefront of the Philadelphia 76er’s effort to keep their season alive. After Joel Embiid’s injury, Maxey has been the saving grace for the Sixers, carrying the bulk of their offensive load. So, it’s a bit hard to imagine that the 23-year-old was on the brink of G-League relegation before this All-Star turnaround. Maxey’s agent, Rich Paul, who carefully orchestrated his career toward a Max contract, led this turn of events.

Now, even Shams Charania is singing Maxey’s praises in the latest episode of ‘Run It Back’. “We have to give [Tyrese Maxey] his flowers, he’s beloved as a teammate, as a player,” said Charania. In addition to that, he also predicted, “He’s going to be a maximum contract player this summer.”

Being shooed in for the Most Improved Player of the Year, just after facing a G-League threat is no small feat. According to Sams, “Maxey and his agent Rich Paul told the Sixers that he preferred to just be around the team. Spend time around the players, spend time with Joel Embiid, and just be around that environment.” This little decision by Paul changed the course of the 23-year-old’s career.

Seeing this drastic turnaround, Bronny James can now breathe a sigh of relief. Rich Paul plans to send the NCAA star to the G League for development. “Rich Paul’s goal here in the pre-draft process for Bronny James is to see if there’s the right developmental system or organization, a place that can take a young player like Bronny James, who went five months without playing after his heart episode certainly limited him in his season at USC,” reported Adrian Wojnarowski.

Later, confirming the fact that “If he does go in the draft, he very likely would spend next year in the G League,” Bronny now has to sit tight and trust Paul’s process, as it does work wonders, as evidenced by Maxey.

This season, not only did Maxey fill the void left by James Harden, but he also gave the Sixers a glance at the future. In addition to jumping five whole points this season on his scoring average of 25 points a night, he also doubled his numbers in assists with 6.2. However, that’s not all, his performance in the first round of the playoffs has been phenomenal, to say the least.

Currently, the New York Knicks lead the series 3-2, but the Sixers were facing a 3-1 deficit with Embiid still dealing with his meniscus injury. While both rosters have lost players due to injury, Jalen Brunson’s onslaught is too much to handle for any team. In the face of this challenge, the 23-year-old is averaging 32.2 points in the series along with 7.2 assists, which is a jump of 7 points from his regular average. Showing that this character will go a long way in the future, even making him the face of the franchise after Embiid.
