Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth among the popular players that will miss the cut at the Scottish Open

Two rounds have been completed at the Genesis Scottish Open, which means half the field heads home early.

Some prominent names will not play on the weekend. Ludvig Ã…berg showed out and headed into Moving Day with a one-shot lead over Antoine Rozner. Sungjae Im and Matteo Manassero are 10-under, and six golfers are 9-under.

While many succeeded at the Renaissance Club, some guys flat-out struggled.

The number to get was 3-under, and anyone with a higher score was sent home. Who were some of those guys that ended their week early? Let’s check out the most popular names who missed the cut at the Scottish Open.

The most popular PGA Tour players to MC at the Scottish Open
— Luke Donald (68-70; -2)
— Hideki Matsuyama (71-67; -2)
— Jordan Spieth (71-68; -1)
— Rickie Fowler (73-71; +4)
— Justin Rose (69-72; +1)
— Padraig Harrington (70-71; +1)
— Will Zalatoris (71-71; +2)
— Denny McCarthy (73-74; +7)
— Keith Mitchell (69-70; -1)

Many of these guys did not play terribly, but with a 3-under cutline, it was far from good enough.

Spieth and Fowler are both headed home early, which feels surprising. The former Texas Longhorn did not play badly last week but could not find it in Scotland.

Mitchell seems right there and finds a way to miss the cut by just a few shots. McCarthy had a strong week at the John Deere, but that momentum did not carry over to the Scottish Open. He struggled, and only four players had the same or worse scores.

Rose and Matsuyama are also shocking because both players tend to do well in this event.

Zalatoris could not do much for himself. One could wonder if it was still his back bothering him, but there has been no confirmation.

When there are players at 10-under or better, the field has to keep pace. These players did not do that, and that caused them to head home early. Some will likely get an early start at prepping for the Open Championship next, as that event is also in Scotland.
