‘Ridiculous’… Joe Rogan recalls bizarre first experience working for the UFC in 1997

Joe Rogan still can’t believe what his first experience working for the UFC was really like.

The popular analyst has had a crazy adventure in MMA, with his name being just as synonymous with the sport as any of the fighters.

Over the years, Rogan has witnessed crazy things, like Igor Severino biting an opponent, Conor McGregor’s historic knockout over Jose Aldo, and Matt Serra beating Georges St-Pierre in a major upset.

But one of his fondest memories comes from his debut shift with the promotion.

However, while he now likely receives luxury treatment, things were very different back in 1997, with the New Jerseyan heading to the venue in a rather interesting manner.

In an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, he said: “The first UFC I worked was UFC 12 in Dothan, Alabama. I think we flew into Birmingham and then we had to take a propeller plane. I was like, ‘What am I doing’? This is so ridiculous’.

“I wanted to see it live. I’d only seen it on television. I’d never seen a live cage fight before, I was like, ‘This has got to be crazy’.”
