Rod Stewart leaves luxury hotel staff $12K holiday tip, tells them to bet it on soccer match

Rod Stewart left nearly $13,000 in gratuity for hotel staff in Scotland.

What a wonderful world.

Rod Stewart left staff a nearly $13,000 tip upon his and his familyā€™s departure from a five-star hotel in Perthshire, Scotland.

The ā€œMaggie Mayā€ crooner stayed with his wife, Penny Lancaster, and two sons Alistair and Liam at the Gleneagles Hotel, where rooms start at about $2,000, for their New Yearā€™s Eve celebrations and lauded the staffā€™s efforts over the busy holiday season.

ā€œIā€™ve been lucky enough to stay in some of the top hotels in the world and the service at Gleneagles is second to none,ā€ he told the Daily Record.

ā€œThe staff do a terrific job at a very hectic time of the year and deserve every penny. Itā€™s Scottish hospitality at its very best.ā€

In addition to leaving the jaw-dropping gratuity, Stewart gave the group a bit of financial advice.

ā€œI advised the boys and girls atĀ Gleneagles to invest the money wisely: stick the lot on Scotland to win the Euros,ā€ Stewart, 78, quipped.

The ā€œForever Youngā€ singerā€™s son Sean and his wife, Jody, didnā€™t appear to join the family on the winter getaway.

The generous gift is just a drop in the bucket for the Grammy winner who listed his Los Angeles estate over the summer for $70 million, choosing instead to make the UK his familyā€™s full-time home.

ā€œRod is incredible for a man his age and still has boundless energy but heā€™s always been canny so itā€™s no surprise that heā€™s thinking about what happens when he can no longer perform,ā€ a source close to the singer told Page Six of his decision to sell.

ā€œHe also wants to make sure everyone is well looked after when heā€™s no longer around, and he is also really thinking about how he ensures his legacy.ā€

Stewart also has been in talks to sell his music catalog but has not found an appropriate buyer.
