Rogers joins Aston Villa from Middlesbrough on five-year deal
Aston Villa have confirmed the transfer deadline day signing of forward Morgan Rodgers from Middlesbrough on a five-year deal.
The 21-year-old has joined the Premier League side in a deal worth £8 million, which could rise to £16m with potential add-ons included.
Rogers has contributed to 16 goals in 33 appearances this season, scoring seven times and assisting nine.
He was also on the scoresheet in Middlebrough’s 6-1 Carabao Cup defeat at Stamford Bridge in January and netted five goals in their impressive run to the semi-finals.
Rogers emerged as Unai Emery’s No. 1 target after impressing the Spanish manager during Middlesbrough’s third round FA Cup defeat to Villa at the Riverside Stadium in January.
The England youth international started his career in the Midlands at West Bromwich Albion, and after rising through the academy ranks, made his debut at the Hawthorns in 2019.
He joined Manchester City, who reportedly have a 25% sell-on clause, and represented the club at U18, U19 and U21 levels.
During that time he had loans with Lincoln City, Bournemouth and Blackpool between 2019 and 2023.
Rogers made the switch to Middlesbrough in the summer, before returning to the Midlands to join Villa ahead of the second half of the season.
Villa are one of the few clubs active on the final day of the January transfer window and are reportedly set to bring in Arsenal academy player Lino Sousa.
The 19–year–old defender is expected to join Villa on a four-and-a-half-year deal before heading straight out on loan on Plymouth Argyle.
Another player Villa could snap up before the deadline is highly-rated 16-year-old midfield starlet Keilan Quinn from West Brom.
Calum Chambers could be heading for the Villa Park exit door, with West Brom reportedly interested in the 29-year-old.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Nottingham Forest have been busy on the final day of the window
They have already captured the loan signing of 18-year-old Rodrigo Ribeiro from Sporting Lisbon while continuing to work on a deal for Strasbourg goalkeeper Matz Sels.
Serge Aurier has reportedly agreed a move to Galatasaray.
