Shaw hails from Asheville, North Carolina and was one of 25 commits to make up the No. 40 overall ranked recruiting class for the Scarlet Knights. At the end of his recruitment, Shaw chose Rutgers over 11 offers from the likes of Duke, Missouri, Tulane, UConn, Vanderbilt and others.
What does the injury mean for Rutgers?
For starters, Shaw was only in year two with the program after redshirting in 2024 and was progressing nicely as a defensive back, but there is a lot of experience in that room with returning starters and transfers.
This offseason alone, Rutgers went out and added two transfer portal safeties in Jett Elad and Chris Joines to go along with now full time starter Kaj Sanders. There’s also a few other veterans in the room, so it would’ve been hard him to break the two-deep this year.
However Shaw was a key contributor on special teams, specifically on kickoffs. One thing that we do know when it comes Greg Schiano coached football teams, he usually likes to get guys a few snaps on special teams early on in their career to get them adjusted to the speed of the game. However he will have to wait until 2026 to showcase those skills.
