Sarah Ferguson Shares Health Update After Skin Cancer Diagnosis
Sarah Ferguson appears to be keeping calm and carrying on in the face of a recent cancer diagnosis. The Duchess of York revealed over the weekend that she’d been diagnosed with and was undergoing treatment for skin cancer. The news came less than a year after the duchess received a breast cancer diagnosis, which led to a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. She was seen out and about Wednesday for the first time since news of her malignant melanoma diagnosis was made public, and gave a brief update on her health.
According to the Daily Mirror, Ferguson, 64, greeted waiting admirers with a smile as she exited an appointment with her dermatologist at the King William VII hospital in the Marylebone neighborhood of London. Asked how she was feeling, the duchess shared a brief yet positive health update: “I’m fine, thank you.”
On Monday, the duchess took to her Instagram account to reflect on the news, urging her followers to remain vigilant about checking for new and changing moles and seeking expert medical opinions. Her skin cancer was discovered after a surgery related to her breast cancer, when she also had moles removed and biopsied.
“I have been taking some time to myself,” she wrote in that caption. “Naturally another cancer diagnosis has been a shock but I’m in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support.”
Ferguson’s health news came on the heels of two other royal health headlines that sent shockwaves through the public: Last week, Kensington Palace shared that Kate Middleton had undergone a “planned abdominal surgery” that will keep her away from royal engagements until Easter, and Buckingham Palace revealed that King Charles III will receive treatment for an enlarged prostate. Queen Camilla last week reassured onlookers that Charles is “fine” and “looking forward to getting back to work.” She also collected get well soon cards from admirers for her husband and Middleton at another event. Even close friends of Middleton and her husband Prince William, as well as many of their staff, were reportedly surprised by the news of her procedure and its resultant lengthy recovery period.
