“Scary”: Patrick Mahomes’ Mentor Alex Smith Breaks Silence on Chiefs Offensive Struggles Despite 3–0 Win Streak
The Chiefs have won the first three games of the 2024 season. But somehow, their wins aren’t convincing. The offense hasn’t looked top-notch. It reflects in their game scores. In the first game, they won 27-20 against Ravens. Their second win was controversial 26-25. The final scores against the Falcons read 22-17. Amid all these, Patrick Mahomes is still working on the perfect strategy. Analysts also doubt the effectiveness of the O-line.
Talking about the same, ex-NFL quarterback and Mahomes’ mentor, Alex Smith, said on the SiriusXM NFL Radio show, “They’re not playing well and they’re 3 and 0. So in some ways, that’s kind of scary. I do think great teams do that. They find the way to make the one play. I think if you’re a Kansas City fan, in some ways you should be really encouraged right.”

Most members of the offense are struggling. In receiving, Rashee Rice is at the top. He has 24 catches with 288 yards and 2 touchdowns in 3 games. The receiver in the second position, Xavier Worthy, has 6 catches with 81 yards and 1 touchdown in 3 games. Even the veteran tight end Travis Kelce has only 8 receptions in 69 yards, but he is yet to score a touchdown. Patrick Mahomes is worried due to his players’ performances, even as a unit.
Overall, they have covered 984 yards in 188 plays. In rushing, the O-line has made 85 plays, covering 349 yards. Chiefs’ attack has 659 passing yards from 1-3 plays. One silver lining is their 100% fourth down conversion from 3 of 3 plays.
Smith also praised their attitude, claiming that Patruick Mahomes and his team acknowledges that they aren’t playing well. They haven’t showed ego after winning games. Mahomes even said that he believed in his teammates.
