Scottie Scheffler Sticking to Same Plan for Final Masters Round If Wife Goes Into Labor

In this story:Scottie Scheffler enters the final round of the 2024 Masters Tournament with a chance to make history.

The American currently sits in first place at seven under par, a stroke ahead of countryman Collin Morikawa. If he can hold serve through the final 18 holes, he will become the first to win the tournament twice in three years since Bubba Watson in 2012 and ’14.

However, Scheffler’s bid for immortality has an unlikely obstacle. Scheffler’s wife, Meredith, is nine months pregnant—and Scottie has been adamant throughout the past week that he will withdraw from the tournament if she goes into labor.

On Saturday evening, Scheffler reiterated his stance to Sirius XM’s Jason Sobel.

Just spoke with Scottie Scheffler and he maintains that if his wife Meredith goes into labor between now and the start of the final round, he’ll withdraw in order to be there for the birth of their first child.

Scheffler indicated earlier this week that Meredith isn’t due until the end of April. But he’s prepared for whatever happens.

“I think the first child wins … over many things in my life,” Scheffler said to Golf.com’s Jack Hirsh. ” … I’m ready to go at a moment’s notice.”

Still, the bar has been set for fathers-to-be everywhere, and the eyes of the golf world will be on Scheffler and his soon-to-be firstborn child Sunday afternoon.
