Seahawks add depth at QB with ex-Steelers rookie, get good news on Rayshawn Jenkins

The Seattle Seahawks just announced a handful of roster moves heading into their first practice of Week 12.

The biggest news is that the team has designated strong safety Rayshawn Jenkins to return to practice. Jenkins has been sitting out the last month on the injured reserve list with a hand injury. He now has 21 days to be activated to the 53-man roster or else he will spent the remainder of the 2024 season on IR. Jenkins performed pretty well before his injury put him on the sidelines. However, Coby Bryant has been even better since taking over for him at strong safety, so an interesting decision could be coming there once Jenkins is ready to return to the lineup.

The Seahawks also added some depth at quarterback by signing John Rhys Plumlee (6-foot-0, 200 pounds) to their practice squad. Plumlee is an undrafted rookie out of UCF who spent the preseason with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was most recently with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who released him last week. Plumlee’s best asset may be his rushing ability, as he totaled 28 touchdowns with his legs between his time at Ole Miss and UCF. We don’t have any word on injuries for either Geno Smith or Sam Howell, so there’s no cause for concern there. Plumlee will be taking the place of outside linebacker Jamie Sheriff, who has been put on practice squad injured reserve.

The Seahawks also signed tight end Tyler Mabry to their practice squad after releasing him from the active roster lat week.
