Sean “Diddy” Combs Trial: Prosecutors No Longer Pursuing Attempted Arson, Kidnapping Theories
Sean âDiddyâ Combsâ daughters are showing their support.
The music mogulâs 18-year-old twins DâLila Combs and Jessie Combs, whom he shares with his late ex Kim Porter, arrived at a New York City courthouse June 26 to hear closing statements in their fatherâs sex trafficking trial. They were joined by their sister Chance Combs, 18, whom the 55-year-old shares with ex Sarah Chapman.
DâLila and Jessie wore matching white pinstripe suits and open-toed heels for the appearance, while Chance opted for a black T-shirt and matching trousers with loafers. The trio seemed to put on a united front as they held hands while entering the federal building.
The government rested its case against Combs June 24 after weeks of calling witnesses to testify against the rapper, while his defense team rested their case after roughly 20 minutes, according to NBC News reporters in the courtroom. Combs, who has pled not guilty to all of his charges, declined to take the stand himself.
Combsâ childrenâincluding his and Porterâs sons Quincy Brown, 34, and Christian âKingâ Combs, 27, as well as his and ex Misa Hylton’s son Justin Combs, 31âhave stood by their dad throughout his criminal case with recurring appearances in court since the trial began in May. They also spoke out in a joint social media post in October, shortly after their fatherâs arrest.

âThe past month has devastated our family,â they wrote in a post on Quincyâs Instagram page at the time. âMany have judged both him and us based on accusations, conspiracy theories, and false narratives that have spiraled into absurdity on social media.â
âWe stand united, supporting you every step of the way,â the message went on. âWe hold onto the truth, knowing it will prevail, and nothing will break the strength of our family. WE MISS YOU & LOVE YOU DAD.â

Prosecutors Conclude With Nearly Five-Hour Closing Arguments
Prosecutor Christy Slavik spent four hours and 50 minutes delivering closing remarks to jurors, in which she argued that Sean âDiddyâ Combs âused power, violence and fear to get what he wanted.â
âHe doesnât take no for an answer,â she said. âIt was his kingdom. Everyone was there to serve him.âÂ
Slavik pointed to Combsâ 2016 physical assault of his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and a 2024 alleged assault of his then-girlfriend, who has been going by âJaneâ for the trial.
âThese two incidents are separated by eight years, but they’re not separate stories,â she said. âThey’re chapters in the same book, the story of Sean Combs and the criminal enterprise he led made up of his inner circle.â
âAgain and again, that criminal enterprise serviced the defendant’s every desire through a methodical pattern of violence, coercion and manipulation,â she continued. âThe defendant counted on silence and shame to keep his crimes hidden. He thought that his fame, wealth and power put him above the law.â
Slavik argued that this trial Combs had the help of what she described as a âa small army of personal staff, who made it their mission to meet the defendant’s every desire, promote his power and protect his reputation at all costs.â

Prosecutors Seek to Streamline Charges Against Sean âDiddyâ Combs
The prosecution submitted a filing to Judge Arun Subramanian, in which they requested to amend parts of their theories of attempted arson and kidnapping.
Although Combs is still facing the same racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking countsâwhich include the kidnapping and arson allegationsâprosecutors wrote in the June 24 letter they had âremoved instructions from the charge relating to attempted kidnapping under both California and New York law, attempted arson under California law, and aiding and abetting sex trafficking.â
The government added that it âhopesâ simplifying the language ânot only serves the purposes of streamlining the instructions but also will avoid any confusion.â

Combs, who confirmed that he spoke with his team about not testifying, emphasized that this was âsolelyâ his decision.
“We have discussed it thoroughly, that is my decision,” he said to the judge. “That is totally my decision, I am making it.”

âIt gave me more of an understanding,â she said of her reasoning for the research. âI was just trying to deep dive on all the reasons why they had derived so much pleasure from watching their woman be with other men.â
The witness theorized that Combsâ desire for âhotel nights,â the details of which are nearly identical to Ventura’s âfreak offs,â was because he may be curious about his own sexuality.
âCucks could also have a real curiosity that they’re too ashamed to experience themselves,â she testified, âand so they use the woman to venture out in this curiosity without actually doing the act itself.â

Judge Denies Sean âDiddyâ Combsâ Defense Teamâs Second Motion for a Mistrial
On June 10, Judge Subramanian denied a motion for mistrial by Combs’ legal team, in which his attorneys argued that Ventura and her friend Bryana Bongolan lied about the latter being dangled over the 17th-floor balcony by the rap mogul.Â
His lawyers, whose previous motion for a mistrial was also denied, accused the prosecution in the filing of âmisconductâ with the âintroduction of perjured testimony.â
âIn this trial the government has presented testimony that it knew or should have known was materially false related to its allegation that Mr. Combs dangled Bryana Bongolan from the balcony of Cassie Venturaâs apartment in September 2016,â the letter said. âAccordingly, to avoid an unfair conviction in this case the Court should grant a mistrial.â

âI feel like I am reading my own sexual trauma,â she wrote after Venturaâs lawsuit, in screenshots shown in evidence. âI am sick. It’s exactly word for word, drug-filled days and nights. You knew this was coming. You gaslit me, you made me go crazy.â
âI am disgusted, I felt forced to perform back to back,â the messages continued. âYou made me feel crazy about the sex trauma I was feeling. I feel very violated. This was sexual exploitation.â
