The Auburn Tigers and Florida Gators will square off on Sunday in an unlikely SEC tournament final matchup.

Auburn was the only top-four seed to win a game inside Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The top three seeds all fell in the quarterfinals.

Bruce Pearl’s Tigers won five games in a row, and in order to extend that streak to six, they must slow down the high-flying Florida offense.

The sixth-seeded Gators posted point totals of 85, 102 and 95 in their three SEC tournament games. They scored at least 77 points in every one of their 14 wins against SEC opposition this season.

Game Preview

Auburn and Florida will try to win the SEC tournament final in two distinctly different ways.

Florida loves to push the pace and none of its SEC tournament opponents slowed it down yet.

The Gators even posted 81 points on Auburn when the two sides met in the regular season on February 10 in Gainesville.

Auburn is capable of matching Florida’s offensive pace, but it typically does not feature in high-scoring contests.

The Tigers limited the Mississippi State Bulldogs to 66 points in Saturday’s semifinal and they held four of their last five opponents under 75 points.

Despite giving up 81 points to Florida earlier this season, Auburn held the Gators to 40.3 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range.

Only three Gators reached double figures in the scoring column on February 10. Florida had five players in double figures in its wins on Friday and Saturday.

Auburn ranks first in two-point defense and 14th in three-point defense on KenPom. Florida ranks 21st in tempo, but it ranks outside the top 100 in both two-and-three-point offense.

The Tigers need a strong defensive showing to win their second SEC tournament title in four years. Florida is in search of its first SEC tournament crown since 2014.
