See Every Golden Globes Winner of 2025
The new year is starting off with a bang, thanks to the 2025 Golden Globes. The ceremony was a fun, loose event that clearly energized the ballroom. Nikki Glaser might have lost in her category, but her monologue was a win that will mean much for her down the road. The shiny hardware went to a pretty diverse group of projects, but some moviesâparticularly The Brutalist and Emilia PĂ©rezâwere rewarded with more than one trip up to the stage, which should give them some additional heat in the race against Anora, Conclave, and Wicked for best picture at the Oscars. In the TV category, which never quite gets the same pomp and circumstance as the film awards doâbut often makes for more laughs during the broadcastâShĆgun and Baby Reindeer fared very well.
This evening, some winners gave passionate speeches about resilience and vision. âYou can put us in jail,â said Karla SofĂa GascĂłn, a trans actor who gives an acclaimed performance in Emilia PĂ©rez. âYou can beat us up, but you can never take away our soul, our existence, our identity.â Brady Corbet, director of The Brutalist, used his time onstage to remind the audience his was a âfilm that kept falling apartâ and which some warned would be âundistributable.â He added that there is a lesson to be learned in his movieâs awards triumph: âNo one was asking for a three-and-a-half-hour film about a midcentury designer on 70 millimeter [film], but it works.â
Elsewhere, Demi Moore, who won for her performance in the wild ride that is The Substance, managed to be both shocked and articulate at the mic, sharing a story about a time, in the midst of her superstar moment decades ago, when she was told she could never be a serious actor and that golden trophies werenât in her future. Of course it wouldnât be the Globesâor America, for that matterâif there werenât moments of cognitive dissonance. For instance, as we wrote in our live blog, âIn a year where Demi Moore might win an Academy Award for her work in The Substance, there have been FIVE GLP-1 commercials this broadcast.â
