Patio season is upon us, that brief window of glorious weather post winter and pre the plum rains. Here’s our list Shanghai’s top pub and bar rooftops and terraces, because everything is better al fresco!

Opening in the halcyon days of 2007, a casual local and old time classic boozer in Xuhui, the Abbey Road terrace also plays host to live music and live sport on the big screen.

A place to while away the hours with well-priced drinks and descent pub grub.

Botanical Basket

This gin-focused shotgun bar really takes off as the weather warms; the space fits roughly 20 people inside, but doubles in size with the added outdoor area.

Given the small space, it only takes a handful of people to make the bar feel lively and crowded, only enhanced by the staffs’ energy that matches the music beats.

The location is prime, and as the temperature continues to rise and the bay windows are opened, you’ll find us popping in for a cheeky afternoon libation or a post-dinner cocktail.

Open Sun-Thu, 11.30am-2am; Fri-Sat, 1pm-4am

Funkadeli has come far from its early days as a delicatessen with a knack for making spritz.

A full-on food and beverage destination, it resembles a smart European bistro with long bar stacked to the rafters with Campari and Aperol.

But the real fun happens when the weather gets pleasant and you can sit outside with the other Donghu Lu party animals. And that time is now.

The also have regular events, providing an even bigger draw for this popular industry hangout.
