Shelly Leatherman Encourages Answering “The Call”

Multi-talented singer-songwriter and producer Shelly Leatherman releases her latest single, “The Call,” a song that urges listeners to respond to the divine calling of life. All of the streaming proceeds from “The Call” will go to the relief of Hurricane Helene.

“The Call” was inspired by a time in Shelly’s life when her son wouldn’t take her calls because of his father’s prompting, an effort intended to create division. While seeking to reestablish her relationship with her son, Shelly rediscovered her personal relationship with God.

Shelly explains, “As I was writing, I realized that just as my son was missing out on amazing opportunities and blessings, there were times I had also ignored God’s call on my life.”

Through expressive lyricism, Shelly motivates listeners to examine their own lives: are they answering the beckoning voice of God or are they too wrapped up in pursuing hollow pleasures that keep them from fulfillment.

Ghosting is all too commonplace in modern relationships. “The Call” asks the question: are you ghosting God or do you have the confidence to answer His invitation to inner healing and spiritual tranquility.

Shelly has worked with Amy Grant, Ally Brooke of Fifth Harmony, and Bob Marley’s band The Wailers, as well as running live sound for Kacey Musgraves, Jason Isbell, Shakey Graves, and Sixwire.

Blending elements of R&B and soul with hints of country flavors, “The Call” rides a low-slung rhythm as a beautifully sparkling piano pushes the melody, giving it a shimmering, creamy flow. Shelly’s vocals, at one delicate and richly evocative, imbues the lyrics with gentle insight, revelation, and numinous devotion, pressing listeners to “answer the call.”

Tenderly poignant and velvety, with “The Call,” Shelly Leatherman delivers an expressive ballad, highlighting her unique voice and perspective.
