‘Sherri’ Show Exec, Matt Uzzle, Dead From Apparent Suicide Amid Internal Financial Investigation

Matt Uzzle, a top executive for The Sherri Show, was found dead in his New York home on Feb. 13 from an apparent suicide.

At the time of his death, Uzzle — whose main job was to manage production and oversee the budget for Sherri — was under investigation according to Page Six.

Sources told the outlet that there were issues involving missing petty cash and that the rent for the show’s New York City studio reportedly hadn’t been paid since September. When confronted, Uzzle said he “needed a couple of days to get his paperwork together.”

Police performed a wellness check when no one heard from him and that was when his body was found.

“There was real concern among staff that the show was getting shut down. [Parent company] Debmar [Mercury] had to step in,” one anonymous source explained. However, someone else said that the show would not be impacted.

A rep for Debmar-Mercury did not disclose details about Uzzle’s death or the investigation, but told Page Six, “We have retained [law firm] Morgan Lewis to help us investigate the matter and, pending the outcome of that investigation, we’ll have no further comment.”

Sherri inherited Uzzle from The Wendy Williams Show. He was described as “a respected production manager who was known for his outstanding contributions to The Wendy Williams Show and several other significant projects.”

The talk show included an in-memoriam moment for Uzzle during its Feb. 15 episode, and grief counselors were brought on to help staffers cope with the tragic loss.
