Short & Sweet: Anne Stott Answers Random Questions
Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor, political rabble rouser, and creativity junkie Anne Stott recently released her third long player, Watershed Synapse Experience, produced by her longtime collaborator and producer Barb Morrison
According to Stott, the albumâs title, Watershed Synapse Experience, âSignifies those moments that we get very rarely in life, where our perception of something shifts one one-hundredth of one degree, and yet it changes how we see everything.â
The album features musical guests Kenny Mellman (Kiki and Herb, The Julie Ruin) playing powerfully fragile piano on âFuture Ruinâ and Terre Roche (The Roches), playing guitar and bringing vocal magic to âFifty Times Around the Sun.â
Stott thinks of herself as being from everywhere and nowhere. She says, âI donât have memories of where I was born. We lived in England for a few years, but Iâm clearly not British. I grew up mostly in Minnesota, but none of my family is from there. And I went to New York City as soon as I could and still think of myself as a New Yorker, even though Iâm a washashore on outer Cape Cod.â
Watershed Synapse Experience compelled us to sit down with Anne Stott and get to know more about her as a person.

Living a creative life.

Cat person.

Whatâs the most random fact you know?
The earth is moving at 67,000 miles per hour around the sun. Which when you think about it isnât that random since it affects every single person on the planet.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A singer and an actor.
Favorite drink and food?
I had a basil watermelon strawberry lemon drink at a restaurant this summer that Iâm clearly still thinking about.
Popcorn.
What is something that no one else seems to care very much about but makes you crawl the walls?
Monkeys freak me out. Like, kind of terrify me.
Must-have on your rider?
Throat coat tea. Boring but essential.
What is one thing youâre good at that people donât expect?
I can stop traffic anywhere. Political activism teaches you cool things.
What smell transports you to another time and place?
The smell of gas reminds me of the â77 Plymouth Fury station wagon on which I learned to drive.
Whatâs your favorite article of clothing that you own?
My boots.

Vote Republican.

iPhone with deep nostalgia for the flip phone. Apparently, they make a flip phone now that supports texts and maps and nothing else but calls. Iâm seriously considering it.
