Sickness setback forces Jodie Stimpson to withdraw from Miami T100 Triathlon World Tour

After receiving a wildcard to compete in the event, Jodie Stimpson has unfortunately been forced to withdraw from the Miami T100 Triathlon World Tour, having been sidelined by Covid-19.

The Brit, who competed just once in 2023 at IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells, where she finished eighth, has struggled since moving up to middle distance triathlon, finishing just five races since 2019.

Sharing her disappointment on Instagram, the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion vowed to return to a start line as soon as possible, but added that recovering from the sickness was her immediate priority.

No fairytale return to Miami for Stimpson

Back in 2021, Stimpson had the best result of her non-draft career to date on the Homestead Speedway, when she beat Lucy Charles-Barclay and Jackie Herring to take the win at Challenge Miami.

This weekend, the PTO World #306 would have been hoping for another breakthrough performance, after she was announced as one of the wildcards set to join the crop of contracted T100 athletes on the start line.

However, sickness put paid to her ambitions, and Stimpson will have to cross her fingers and wait for another opportunity to race against the very best in the sport.

“I will get over the massive disappointment”

A testament to her strength of character, the 35-year-old recalled how she had felt like a ‘kid at Christmas’ after receiving the call-up to race in Miami, which underlines why she was so disappointed to have been forced to withdraw.

“You may have noticed the lack of posts from me at the Miami T100! After being given the golden ticket wildcard entry I was like a kid at Christmas and so excited to grab the opportunity to be on the start line with the best in the world.

“It just wasn’t to be, as I have been struck with Covid-19! I will get over the massive disappointment, recover and start my season soon!”

Fingers crossed, it won’t be long before we see Stimpson back racing again at her best!
