Simone Biles Just Became the Most Decorated U.S. Olympic Gymnast: Watch Her GOAT Routine Clinch the Gold for Team USA

The record was previously held by “Magnificent Seven” gymnast Shannon Miller, who was in the stands cheering her country on. Before the event started, she sent Team USA a heartfelt message about enjoying the moment and wished them all the best of luck. “My favorite thought before going out to compete was to compete to the best of my abilities. Tonight I wish for all of the competitors that they may go out and compete to the best of their abilities! It’s going to be amazing,” Miller wrote on Instagram.

Biles was already the most decorated gymnast in general, with a number of world championships under her belt, but to see her snag the title at the Olympic level is especially gratifying after her difficulties at the Tokyo Games due to the “twisties.” She’s also the oldest female American gymnast to win an Olympic gold, at the ripe age of 27, per CNN. And, yes, she has the opportunity to win even more medals in Paris, with a number of individual events still to come later this week.

In addition to her prowess on the mat, the beam, and the vault, Biles has a medal-worthy ability to turn even the queasiest American into a full-on patriot. The moment she entered the gym, social media lit up with national pride.
