Sirianni, Hurts give praise to God – Is something changing in American culture?
As a devout Christian, I deeply follow my faith and the people who profess it publicly. By the numbers, Christianity is declining in our country, and the numbers bear that out: a study by Pew showed 90 percent of Americans were Christians in the 1990s, and as of 2022, only two-thirds of the population claims the Christian faith.
And yet over the past several weeks we have seen players from college and NFL teams give glory to God, specifically Jesus, after winning championships.
Ohio State players did it after topping Notre Dame, and last night, both Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni thanked the Lord first during post-game interviews after winning the Super Bowl.
More Christian athletes are praising the Lord publicly.
Were they always Christians, but too nervous to openly voice it? Or did they recently become Christians? Or are the numbers wrong? Who knows. Either way, just reading the tree leaves, something seems afoot in our culture. And that’s a good thing.
