Skoda Vision Gran Turismo Revealed As Single-Seater, 1071bhp EV

It seems everyone is getting involved in the Vision Gran Turismo programme these days. Citroen was sort of the first to do it before it became a more formally branded thing, and since then the likes of McLaren, Jaguar, Porsche, Nissan and many, many others have partaken ā€“ even watch brand Bvlgari. Now, a certain humble Czech car manufacturer has had a go.

Sadly, Skoda hasnā€™t decided to go for a ā€˜Simply Cleverā€™ barebones hatchback for its Gran Turismo debut, rather following the trend of wildly-styled electric racing cars with big power figures.

This isnā€™t the first weā€™ve actually seen of this Skoda, having first been unveiled in 2022 as the Skoda Vision GT (although not then officially as part of Gran Turismo), suggesting this has been a long time in the works.

As with the 2022 original, itā€™s a single-seater ā€“ although inspired by the two-seater 1100 OHC of 1957 ā€“ and retains some pretty dramatic angular styling. There have been some changes, mainly with the front end – including shorter LED lights and a fascia more in line with recent Skoda road cars. It does keep the rather wicked-looking split rear wing, too, and with functional active aerodynamics.

Powering the Skoda Vision GT is a quad-motor setup, offering up 1071bhp and 752lb ft of torque, and in a car weighing just 1,300kg. Finally, something to beat a remapped Mk1 Fabia vRS off the line.

Inside, a minimalist interior has a carbon fibre steering wheel and a widescreen display feeding the driver information. Thereā€™s also a handy set of vehicle proximity warning lights to let you know when Lance Stroll is about to dive-bomb you.

Of course, no real, functional car will be built – instead designed specifically for the virtual world. The Skoda Vision Gran Turismo will arrive in Gran Turismo 7 on 25 April, as part of the 1.46 update thatā€™s scheduled to release following server maintenance from 7am UK time. As with every other Vision GT car, weā€™re expecting it to cost 1,000,000 in-game credits.Ā
