‘SNL’ recreates what it feels like to mindlessly scroll TikTok
If youâve ever found yourself stuck in the endless doom scroll that is TikTok’s For You Page, Saturday Night Liveâs latest sketch might hit a little too close to home. This week, SNL took on the chaotic, mind-numbing experience of losing yourself in the algorithm with a sketch that parodies the absurd randomness of TikTok feedsâhighlighting just how addictive (and unhealthy) it can be.
The sketch kicks off with a man repeatedly telling his wife that heâs âon the way,â only to dive deeper into TikTokâs bizarre rabbit hole. From there, weâre hit with a rapid-fire stream of pitch-perfect parodies: trad wives pushing vintage domestic bliss, hoteps like Umar Johnson spouting conspiracy theories, cringey fitness influencers, that one guy who sings terribly in front of celebrities, and even the âblack wife effectâ trend.
But the standout moments are a tie between a dancing weatherman energetically forecasting an incoming hurricane and the final reveal that the man endlessly scrolling TikTok is doing so while his wife is literally in labor.
Yeah, maybe TikTok is rotting our brains.
