Snl24 | Another arrest in MK party members’ killing!

A fourth suspect has appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court following the shooting of two MK members.

A FOURTH suspect, Sipho Xaba, involved in the murder of two MK members in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Thursday, 30 May.

Xaba, who surrendered to the police on Tuesday, 28 May, faces assault charges, while his co-accused, Sithembile Magasela, Jackson Mphahlele, and Mduduzi Ranyao, are facing two counts of murder.

The incident, which resulted in the deaths of uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party members Bongani Mkhwanazi and Xolani Nzimande on Sunday, 26 May, allegedly followed a dispute with members of the Ekurhuleni Thathazonke anti-crime unit, allegedly linked to the ANC.

Peter Zwane, the lawyer representing the suspects, disclosed that Xaba had previously served 15 years for robbery and was released on parole seven years ago, with no pending cases against him.

The court has postponed the case for a bail application and to verify Xaba’s residential address.

Xaba, identified as a member of the Ekurhuleni Thathazonke anti-crime unit, remains in custody. He’s scheduled to reappear in court alongside his co-accused on 24 June.

During their court appearance on Tuesday, 28 May, Zwane requested separate cells for Magasela and Mphahlele at Boksburg prison, a plea the magistrate, Wynaand Ferreira, claimed to be unaware of.

Outside court, Simphiwe Khumalo, spokesman for the Ekurhuleni Thathazonke Anti-Crime Unit, refuted claims that the murder was politically motivated.
