A plane that was set to travel from Cape Town International Airport to Joburg was cancelled following a bomb scare.

The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) called the Bomb Squad after they were told there might be a bomb on FlySafair’s plane FA102, which was going to fly to O.R. Tambo International Airport.

The incident happened on Thursday 06 June in the evening.

“The security threat on FlySafair FA102 due to depart for O.R. Tambo International Airport (ORTIA), was managed by the SAPS and relevant law enforcement agencies. ACSA can confirm that airport and airline management was at the scene to ensure full compliance with all aviation safety and security protocols required by law,” said ACSA in a statement.

People on the plane had to get off while the police checked the plane. A passenger said the flight was stopped because of the scare.

“They said they will communicate the new arrangement so we will see what happens tomorrow,” said a 44-year-old passenger who didn’t to be named.

Mark Maclean, ACSA Regional General Manager, Cluster 2 said the safety and security of the passengers and crew are of utmost importance to them.

“The SAPS together with the Aviation Security (AVSEC) team has ensured that all the necessary measures are in place to mitigate any risks associated with this threat,” said Mark Maclean, ACSA Regional General Manager, Cluster 2. We would like to praise the airline for their prompt response to what was a serious security concern, and we also laud the combined efforts of the SAPS and AVSEC in upholding the safety and security of passengers and cabin crew,” added Maclean
