Snl24 | Chiefs legend: I think Sundowns will sweat on Saturday
PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA – SEPTEMBER 23: Ashley Du Preez of Kaizer Chiefs scores a penalty during the MTN8 semi final, 2nd leg match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs at Lucas Moripe Stadium on September 23, 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa.
Kaizer Chiefs legend Gardner Seale says with Mamelodi Sundowns’ most recent two victories, the defending league champions were sending a strong message to his former club… but is confident Amakhosi will have an ace up their sleeve.
Seale believes Amakhosi’s fixture against AmaZulu FC on Wednesday will provide them with a chance to ‘return the favour’ on Manqoba Mngqithi’s men ahead of their highly anticipated clash this Saturday.

Sundowns have now scored eight goals in the space of four days, beating Mbabane Swallows of Eswatini 4-0 in the CAF Champions League on Saturday, before following that up with a 4-1 hammering of Marumo Gallants in the league on Tuesday.Â
The former fullback says even though Chiefs will be under pressure to win the unpredictable encounter against Usuthu, tonight’s performance will have no bearing come the big one against The Brazilians at FNB Stadium.
“I think it’s good for Kaizer Chiefs the way things are. It puts them on the edge. It’s good preparations for what’s coming on Saturday,” an upbeat Seale shares with KickOff.
“But I trust Amakhosi. Each time they face the so-called big teams, they rise to the occasion. Beating Mbabane Swallows and Gallants doesn’t make it obvious for Saturday’s game.
“Tonight’s result against AmaZulu will show us how far prepared Chiefs are. It’s always important to go into a big game on the back of a good win,” adds the soft-spoken legend.Â
Seale says even if Nasreddine Nabi’s men were to lose against AmaZulu, on Saturday a different Kaizer Chiefs will come out of the Soccer City tunnel for kick-off.
“I put my head on the block about that. Chiefs should use tonight’s game to send a message to Sundowns. I’m hoping they win convincingly.
“I think Sundowns will sweat on Saturday, even if the difference is an odd goal.

“Chiefs played well in their first game of the season against Marumo Gallants, and judging by the preparations, I’m not surprised.
“It was a good start for Kaizer Chiefs, the way they got their season underway.”
Kick-off at Moses Mabhida Stadium tonight is 19:30.
