Snl24 | Chiefs’ pursuit of Appollis to come at triple the price

Kaizer Chiefs’ chase of Oswin Appollis will come at a cost.

Oswin Appollis’ price tag will come to at least triple of what Kaizer Chiefs could have paid when they were offered the Capetonian last year.

This time last year, Appollis had completed a season with Pretoria Callies in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Six goals from 28 games playing for a team that was battling in the bottom half of the second-tier league already gave enough of indications about his potential.

Those that played with and against him spoke glowingly about him through declaring that he needed a better platform than what Callies was offering.

Appollis’ name was thrown around to several clubs, who included Chiefs.

A bargain figure was mentioned to Amakhosi on several occasions, but it was a cold shoulder response from the authorities based at Lena Road.

It had already been noted that Appollis would thrive at Chiefs.

Having already seen enough of him playing in the same league on the way to promotion, Polokwane City pounced.

Fast-forward to a year later, and the 22-year-old will now earn Polokwane good money having also broken into the Bafana Bafana squad.

Appollis got minutes at the AFCON finals and has also played in four of the last five matches for Hugo Broos’ men through a season in which he has tormented opponents at will.

He had 12 goal contributions for his club playing in wide areas, which has attracted the interest of the Soweto giants.

Instead of what they could have paid last year, Chiefs will be forced deeper into their pockets.

The price tag mentioned is at a minimum of R8 million, with Polokwane keen to sell in this window.

Appollis will come as replacement for Keagan Dolly, whose personal terms have been exorbitant throughout his three years at Naturena.
