After Kaizer Chiefs had promoted their wonderkid from their DStv Diski Challenge side to their senior team, the club may have now finalised a long term contract for him, the Siya crew has been informed.

The player in question is Mfundo Vilakazi and his deal could run from January 2024 to June 2029, which is five and a half years long.

Siya sources have indicated that this may be why Vilakazi can no longer feature for their DDC games.

“The club thought it was wise to give him a long term contract and that’s why they have given him five years. Apparently this is to make sure that the young players feel at home and they believe that the club wants them to be part of the team for the longest term (possible),” said the Siya source.

“They also want the youngsters to understand the culture of the team while at the same time help the team in its quest to return to their glory days. The deal is as good as done as we speak and it’s for five years,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source has observed that the club has also advised the player to concentrate on first team action.

“He is with the first team and that’s why he is not playing in the DDC games so far. They are grooming him in the first team and they didn’t want to disturb him with the profession of the senior team. They know other teams use youngsters both in the senior team and the DDC but for now they want him to concentrate on the first team activities so that he acclimates himself with the senior players and how things work there,” the source stated.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but no response was received at the time the story was published.
