Orlando Pirates retained top spot after edging AmaZulu in a five-goal thriller on Saturday morning at Rand Stadium.

Azola Matrose opened the scoring for Pirates with only seven minutes on the clock but Bayende Thabethe equalised nine minutes later for Usuthu.

Lulama Nxumalo restored the lead for the Buccaneers ten minutes before the interval and Mohau Nkota made it 3-1 just after the hour-mark.

Yanga Mjoli pulled a goal back for Usuthu 19 minutes before time from the penalty spot but Pirates were in control of the closing stages as they clinched their third straight victory.

Joseph Makhanya’s charges remained at the top of the table by virtue of a superior goal difference over second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mamelodi Sundowns won their fourth game in succession after a narrow victory over Cape Town City in a five-goal thriller on Saturday morning at ABSA Tuks Stadium.

The Brazilians remained in close contention with leaders Orlando Pirates, as the two sides are equal on points and Sinethemba Badela’s men had to settle for second spot on account of an inferior goal difference.

TS Galaxy 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs won back-to-back matches after edging TS Galaxy 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Tsakane Stadium.

Donay Jansen’s early goal was enough to hand Amakhosi all the three points as they remained in fourth place on the log, seven points behind both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Stellenbosch 3-0 Richards Bay

Stellenbosch consolidated their third position on the table after a resounding 3-0 victory over ten-man Richards Bay on Sunday afternoon at Idas Valley Sports Stadium.

Mervin Boji, Quwan Plaatjies and Kyle Bailey were on target for Stellies.

The Natal Rich Boyz had a man sent off, Nkosiyethu Mkhabela while a goal down early in the second stanza and they could not recover after that as the Cape Winelands side ran away with the game.

Stellies are just two points behind leaders Orlando Pirates and second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns in third spot on the table.

SuperSport United 2-0 Cape Town Spurs

SuperSport United won their fourth game in a row after beating Cape Town Spurs 2-0 on Sunday morning at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Following a goalless first stanza, Thabang Mahlangu broke the deadlock for SuperSport with nine minutes remaining and Kabelo Selowa sealed the three points with the second goal in added time.

Sekhukhune United 1-1 Golden Arrows

Sekhukhune United extended their winless run to four matches after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Golden Arrows on Saturday morning at Isak Steyl Stadium.

After a goalless first stanza, Manamela broke the deadlock for Sekhukhune early in the second stanza but Samukele Mlaba snatched the equaliser for Arrows in stoppage time.
