As the transfer window heats up, the race to sign Stellenbosch FC midfielder Jayden Adams is picking up momentum, and the Siya crew investigates the latest developments.

Both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs had previously been reported to have been interested in Adams, but Stellies head coach Steve Barker had underlined that his team was looking to keep their best players.

According to Siya sources close to the situation, both Gauteng clubs should be prepared to challenge in a bidding contest for the player, and that the right price could allow Stellenbosch to let Adams move up country.

“At the moment you can not really tell which team would finally sign him. Both clubs have shown great interest in the player but nothing has happened yet. Stellenbosch are looking at the highest bidder. He is one of their best players and a national team player so he won’t go cheap,” said the Siya source.

Even though the insider states that any of the two teams could eventually sign Adams, the Siya source indicates that Amakhosi are in front of the queue at the moment.

“But the way things stand now, it doesn’t mean Sundowns will walk over Chiefs just like that. No, it won’t be like that. It’s a right fight for the player. But in this moment, Chiefs are ahead of Sundowns. At Chiefs he can have the chance to play more games when compared to Sundowns,” the source added.

The final decision on Adams’ future is also complicated by various dynamics, according to a second insider.

“The move to Sundowns for now hangs in the balance. They have to relook at the whole situation as to who really wanted the player in the first place,” said the second Siya source who is referring to whether it was departed head coach Rulani Mokwena or other management who were more determined to sign the Stellies star.

“The proper battle for the player between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will be solved by the highest bidder,” the second source added.

Adams’ ability to influence games from midfield for makes him a valuable asset for any team looking to bolster their squad.

Michael Costa, Adams’ agent, responded to Soccer Laduma’s question on the latest developments.

“No real movement right now,” Costa told the Siya crew.

Soccer Laduma also contacted Chiefs for comment as to how they have moved ahead of the queue, when Sundowns were already reported to be interested. However, Chiefs had not responded to the Siya crew by the time this report was published.
