The legendary Hugh Masekela and other music legends will be honoured at this year’s DStv Delicious Festival.
MZANSI is celebrating 30 years of creative freedom this year, and the DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival will be honouring legends at the 2024 event.
Though they may no longer be with us, their incredible music lives on in our hearts and minds.
Festival attendees will be taken down memory lane during a tribute show on 21 and 22 September at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand, Gauteng.
DStv Delicious announced that concerts on both days will feature performances by the kids of the late music icons.
“Hugh Masekela (by his son, Selema Writes), Sibongile Khumalo (by her daughter Ayanda Khumalo and her son, Tshepo Mngoma), Mandoza (by sons Tokollo and Tumelo Tshabalala), and Johnny Clegg (by son Jesse Clegg),” they said in a statement.
They said the first evening of the DStv Delicious Festival, powered by LottoStar, will toast to the vibrant legacy of Mzansi hip-hop and kwaito pioneers.

“The two-hour show will feature performances by Boom Shaka, Khuli Chana, Yanga, Okmalumkoolkat, Reason, Maggz, Touchline, Cassper Nyovest, Morafe and Focalistic, as well as Tokollo and Tumelo Tshabalala, paying tribute to the extraordinary talents of AKA, HHP, Lebo Mathosa, Mandoza, Pro Kid and Riky Rick,” they said.
DStv Delicious media director Funeka Peppeta said they’re excited to celebrate 30 years of democracy.
“We’re doing that because South Africa has given so much to the world and to our own audience great music, great food, and those are the cornerstones of our festival. A festival that is for food lovers who love music,” she said.
She said they’re grateful that their audience has grown and evolved with them.
“This year is special and unique because we’re adding on more layers to our consumer’s experience,” she said.
