EFF secretary-general Marshall Dlamini has rejected the party’s former Students Command president Mpho Morolane’s resignation.

According to Dlamini’s official statement, dated 5 September 2024, Morolane is not a member of the EFF, casting doubt on the legitimacy of his resignation.

In response, Dlamini said: “We write to inform you that your letter is misdirected as you are not a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and do not appear on the organisation’s membership system.

“Therefore, we advise that you forward the letter to the relevant political party as this correspondence doesn’t apply to the EFF.”

Dlamini concluded by saying: “The organisation wishes you luck as you trace your political home.”

Morolane received attention in July when he started pushing for Mbuyiseni Ndlozi to be the EFF’s new secretary-general at the elective conference, scheduled for December.

Before that, he had been part of the EFF for over a decade before his public resignation on Wednesday, 4 September.

In his letter, Morolane described his decision as “deep sorrow infused with joy,” further highlighting the difficulties he encountered within the organisation.

He said serving in the EFF had been a crucial aspect of his life and did it with humility, integrity, and respect.

Morolane further stated that it was time for him to take a fresh course in his political career.

He later shared on X that he will be following in former EFF deputy leader Floyd Shivambu’s footsteps by joining the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party.
