Snl24 | Eight killed in foiled cash heist

EIGHT would-be robbers died in Cape Town on Monday, 5 August, during a foiled cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery.

Police spokesman Brigadier Novela Potelwa reported that a multidisciplinary team, comprising members from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), intelligence operatives, Special Task Force members, and security company officials, acted on vital information about a planned CIT robbery in Khayelitsha.

The operation took place on Monday evening, 5 August.

“As the team approached the suspects, the would-be robbers opened fire on the police, who then retaliated. As a consequence, eight suspects were shot dead, and five were arrested,” Potelwa explained.

At the scene, police confiscated several firearms, including AK-47 rifles, R5 rifles, numerous magazines filled with rounds of ammunition, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Potelwa said that DPCI detectives are diligently continuing their investigations and following up on additional information.
