A former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper has confirmed ongoing talks between him and South African football champions Mamelodi Sundowns regarding making a move to the seven-time consecutive league champions.

Sundowns are looking for a goalkeeper coach for their development structures and have identified Shu-Aib Walters as a perfect candidate.

Speaking to KickOff, Walters said his objective is to produce another Itumeleng Khune and Ronwen Williams for the Tshwane giants.

“I’m still waiting for Sundowns to get back from their pre-season tour, we’re just waiting on something concrete,” Walters says.

“But yes, I can confirm we are talking. It will be in the development, that’s where my passion is, that’s where I have seen a lot of success.

“I have got two goalkeepers from Shu-Aib Walters Goalkeeping Academy playing in the DDC [DStv Diski Challenge] and one in the NFD, and there’s one I have sent to the Sundowns U17, his name is Luke.

“I think that’s where I’m valuable [development] that’s where my passion is now. It’s where I feel I can add value.

“Thereā€™s also one other boy who is gonna sign with SuperSport [United], he is also one of my goalkeepers from my academy. He recently got the Engen Goalkeeper of the Tournament [award] – his name is Colby Sinclair.

“For me, my wish is to have a goalkeeper that can compete in one of the bigger stages. I would like to produce a future Itumeleng Khune and a future Ronwen Williams.

“Both goalkeepers were produced at the age of 13 and it has never happened again.

“So, regarding Sundowns, I should have some concrete answers on the weekend.”

The Brazilians are currently abroad, where they are undergoing pre-season preparations.
