EX-Mamelodi Sundowns footballer Phakamani Mahlambi is a free man.

This comes after his assault case against his girlfriend was withdrawn by the state.

The 26-year-old made a brief appearance in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 22 May, facing allegations of assaulting his girlfriend.

Their representatives met, and they both agreed on mediation.

The Magistrate then withdrew the case against the soccer star.

Before the court, the soccer star was seen with his girlfriend alongside his little brother, seated calmly on the benches.

This was after his case was brought before the court on Wednesday, 24 April.

His matter was postponed to Wednesday, 22 May, for further representation and investigations.

During the court proceedings, the Magistrate said that he had withdrawn the case as the complaint in court for possible mediation.

Phakamani, who was granted R500 bail, was arrested on Tuesday, 23 April, and spent the night in custody at Sebenza Police Station near Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni.

The arrest was made by Ekurhuleni police, with Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirming the incident to Daily Sun.

“Gauteng police are investigating a case of assault following the arrest of a 26-year-old man on Tuesday afternoon,” she said, noting that the matter was still under investigation.

This incident is part of a concerning trend among football players facing legal troubles.

After their court appearance, Phakamani and his girlfriend looked happy and walked to a car holding papers. They didn’t want to comment on this matter.
