Snl24 | From newsreader to a Doctor!

Radio and TV host Masego Easy Matjila was honoured with an honorary doctorate by the North West University on Thursday, 18 July.

FORMER SABC newsreader, Masego Easy Matjila was honoured with an honorary doctorate by North West University on Thursday, 18 July.

The ex-SABC newsreader, who is popularly known as Bra Eazy, told Daily Sun he never thought he would get the honorary doctorate, but always knew he was doing something right on radio and TV.

He said this was a dream come true!

“This means the world to me and shows that I was on the right track. I’m grateful to those who gave me a chance to share my work and stories on air. They made sure I was heard and did this out of love. This honorary degree is for me and those who supported me all the way,” Bra Eazy said.

He said he had three options to celebrate his achievement and chose July as it’s the month in which he lost his mum.

“I was honouring my late mother and this was for her too. I’ll always cherish the moments we had. I was celebrated after someone leaked the news about my graduation ceremony.

“I’m still active and whoever wants to have a presenter, I’m still here. I love my job and anyone who wants a host, I’m ready.”

Bra Eazy left the SABC in 2021. He was also a host on Motsweding FM for many years, as well as Radio Ndebele, Radio Swazi and the Afrikaans Service.

He was a regular on TV in the evenings reading the news in Setswana, Sesotho and Sepedi. He was also an executive producer and bulletin editor for the SABC, opening doors for Setswana, Sesotho and Sepedi youth programmes on SABC2.

Bra Eazy also won various awards, including Best News Writer and Commentator of the Year for his commentary during the 1996 African Cup of Nations.
