THE Patriotic Alliance (PA) has confirmed a meeting with former president Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party on Wednesday, 12 June, to discuss coalition possibilities.

The party, led by Gayton McKenzie, said it has consistently maintained that it was open to discussions with any party regarding coalition formations.

“Recently, we were approached by the MK party for a discussion on the election results and potential coalition agreements,” said PA Secretary-General Chinelle Stevens.

“McKenzie has released a draft agenda to members about the talking points. True to our commitment to transparency to our members, we’ve agreed to meet with the MK party tomorrow.”

Stevens said they were ready to hear MK’s proposals at the meeting.

She emphasised that leading up to the elections they were clear about their willingness to engage with all parties to achieve effective governance.

“Following the conclusion of this meeting, we will promptly report back to our members regarding the outcomes,” Stevens said.

Daily Sun has reached out to the MK party for comments, which will be included once received.

Last week, ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the former governing party would discuss forming a Government of National Unity (GNU) with other parties.

The announcement followed a special meeting of the ANC’s National Executive Committee in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni.

The first sitting of Parliament is scheduled for Friday, 14 June in Cape Town.

Meanwhile, the MK party has invited the IFP to discuss coalitions, highlighting shared interests in KZN, including enhancing the Zulu Kingdom’s dignity, accelerating service delivery, and boosting the province’s economic status.

“We request that a convergence of minds be solicited, and we afford each other time and space to engage,” concluded MK Secretary-General Sihle Ngubane.
