GOSPEL duo Sgwili en Babo has finally ironed out their differences and are working together again after 11 years apart.

The duo, which was also known as Ikhethelo, is made up of Sgwili Zuma and Babo Ngcobo. They started singing working together in 2009 in honour of their late backup singer, Thembi Chiliza, who died in the same year.

They’ve received three nominations and even walked away with Best Newcomer at the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards in 2010. Unfortunately, they split in 2013 after they released many hit songs such as Amatshe, NginguThixo and Inxaniwe.

They then focused on their solo careers again, but things between them got so bad they allegedly refused to shake hands on stage when they were both honoured with awards during SAVA awards in Empangeni, KZN in 2016.

There was a big call in 2022 for them to reunite, but it didn’t happen, so fans were happy to see them perform together during the memorial service of the late Ukhozi FM presenter, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule at GNF Church in Durban on Thursday, 15 August.

Babo confirmed that they’re back together and they wanted to keep it a secret until they release their upcoming EP, but the cat is now out of the bag.

“In fact, we ironed out our differences a long time ago. The thing was that we wanted to reconnect again before we went to the studio. That’s why we spend our time together to reconnect spiritually.

“We’ve spent many years apart and we have grown. It was important to us to take our time to iron out our differences and reconnect,” he said.

He said that their EP is expected to be out at the end of September.
