“THEY must just plead guilty. It’s them.”

These were the words of Dumisani Mahlangu (30), who lost both his hands in March 2024 after a pastor, his son, and his wife chopped them off, accusing him of stealing items at the Soteria Ministries International at Kwa-Guqa in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.

Pastor Solomon Mhlanga, his son Enoch, and his wife Poppy Mhlanga made their first appearance in the Witbank Regional Court on Monday, 9 September, facing attempted murder and kidnapping charges.

Their case was postponed to 22 October for a pre-trial.

Dumisani said he doesn’t understand why the court is delaying the trial because the trio is guilty.

“Why do they want to waste the court’s time? Why can’t they plead guilty? It’s them who did this to me. I saw them,” he said.

Dumisani told Daily Sun that he had since accepted his condition and felt better than in the past months.

He said he’d be relieved only if the court sends the family to jail for a long time.

“I want them to be jailed, and this is for my safety. I’m happy that the trial will start soon, and I hope they don’t delay the court because it’s them who did this to me. I saw them, they can’t pin their actions on someone else, it was them,” he said.

Dumisani’s father, Johannes, said all the family wants is justice.

He said what happened has happened, and nothing can change that his son is handless.

Dumisani was kidnapped while walking on Kroomdraai Road towards Extension 16 in Vosman.

It’s alleged that Solomon, Enoch, and Poppy pointed a firearm at him, grabbed him, forced him into a bakkie, and tied both his hands and legs. The suspects allegedly told Dumisani they were going to kill him.

They drove into the bushes, cut off a branch from a tree, placed both his hands on it, and chopped them off using a panga. His hands were later discovered in the bushes.
