Snl24 | Hospital Horror: Shocking video exposes neglect!

THE Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) says it will investigate a complaint raised by a patient at Helen Joseph Hospital in Joburg.

This comes after a patient a video at the hospital, exposing the apparent appalling treatment received by sick people at the facility.

The patient has accused the doctors and nurses of lacking care and humanity. In the video, he claimed that he has never seen such a level of disrespect for human beings in his entire life.

He further showed the dire state of the hospital’s infrastructure, with taps not working, parts of the ceiling chipped off, and ‘dead bodies’ left unattended for 20 minutes.

After being shared on numerous social media platforms, on Sunday, 8 September, the health department responded that the matter is being investigated to establish facts and address the issues raised by the complainant.

The Department spokesman, Motaletale Modiba, said while the matter is being investigated, it is important to note that the Department launched a provincial campaign called ‘I Serve With A Smile’ nine months ago, aimed at improving staff attitude and patient experience of care.

He stated that this programme is currently being rolled out at all healthcare facilities.

“Furthermore, the GDoH has established an internal Infrastructure Unit which has now developed a maintenance and refurbishment programme. Previously, this function was carried out by a sister department of infrastructure.

“Through this intervention, several facilities have already undergone maintenance and refurbishments, such as the completed ICU wards at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, and Jubilee District Hospital,” he said.

Modiba said Helen Joseph and other facilities are earmarked for further maintenance as part of efforts to improve the infrastructure across facilities. He urged patients to report their complaints to the quality assurance offices located at each facility when they are not happy with the service standards.
