Former Jomo Cosmos star Innocent Ntsume.

In this week’s edition of My Welcome To The League Moment, KickOff catches up with former former Jomo Cosmos star Innocent Ntsume.

The 44-year-old former Ezenkosi midfielder says he will never forget the day he had to travel from Johannesburg to East London on an empty stomach while his Cosmos teammates were munching on every food that was available on the flight.

“I remember when I was new at Jomo Cosmos, we flew from Joburg to East London for an away fixture,” Ntsume tells KickOff.

“Before we even boarded the plane, my teammates said to me, ‘You see, once we are inside the flight, you must order everything on offer, and we will pay for you, and you can pay us back with the allowance Bra J gave you. You must just kill every food that the stewardess is going to give you’.

“But because of lack of knowledge, I was scared to order or touch anything, thinking to myself, this food must be very expensive if it’s gonna take all my allowance.

“There I was, starving myself from Joburg to East London, not knowing the food was free. I told everyone I was full, I didn’t need any food, when I was actually starving inside. I told them I would only have water.

“When we arrived in East London, Gqeberha, I was the biggest joke. Everyone was making fun of me, telling whoever who cared to listen how I was scared of eating on the plane, not knowing the food was free.

“But on our way back to Joburg, I almost finished the whole food on the plane. I was killing the food, yooh! I ate everything that came near me.

“I will never forgive Sibusiso Mhlongo, Lucas Tlhomelang, and Patrick Tshisikhawe for almost killing me with hunger that day.

“Can you imagine drinking water from Joburg to East London while your teammates were munching all these nice things?”
